So this and yesterday's shot were taken at the Forest Park Balloon Glow. Every year in Saint Louis there is a balloon race at the end of summer from Forest Park, which is right out our back door. The night before they light up all the balloons and let people walk around and check them out. It's hard to say for sure, but I think there may have been as many as 40 balloons and 5000 people out that night. A lot of SLR cameras and tripods, too!

I went out to the Glow last year but I got there late and I messed up the settings on the camera and so didn't get anything worth posting. I did a little better this time, but I know I could get some even cooler stuff now that I have had a run through. The whole thing only lasts an hour or so, and I got worn out pretty quickly covering all the ground and dealing with the crowds...

I would love to get to shoot this next year, but unfortunately there is a good chance I will have moved away by then.

This is a terrific shot. It's in the category of what I would call a "Street Portrait" i.e. people caught doing what they do. In that respect, it reminds me of another photo on your blog of a guy posting titles on a theater marque. I really like the coal black night contrasted by the flame. Very dramatic!
