About this blog: My name is Jeff Drobish, a photography novice. I started this blog in the summer of 2007 in order to share some of my work. Having this blog motivates me to continually get better and to have fun. If I were a photo hobbyist without this blog I think I would get bored pretty quickly and I would never really improve. Having the self-imposed pressure of posting every day (or hopefully at least every week!) motivates me to keep shooting, keep trying new things, and to keep getting better. Also, for those who actually know me personally, because I tend to just shoot what is around me in my daily life, checking in on the blog is not a bad way to kind of get an idea of what I've been up to. I love getting comments, especially criticism. I like critical comments because I truly care about trying to improve, and that's hard without feedback. (Of course, I also don't mind getting told if I have done something right.) I hope when you visit you will take the time to drop a comment or two in here. For technical details: So far as camera equipment, the mouse-over info block tells you the lens and camera I use for every shot. I rarely use a tripod, but I have one as well as a remote trigger for those times that I take the trouble to try to get three shots for an HDR composite. I use a Canon 430EX flash. In post-processing I use Photoshop 7, Photomatix, and Canon's "Digital Photo Professional" software that came with my camera. I tend to mess with most of my photos, but I try to do so in a way that is true to the original or that is at least true to the emotion the photo is trying to evoke. I coded the website myself. I wrote all the php and html code using Microsoft Notepad. I've titled this site "Focusing" because (1) it is an obvious play on photography but also because (2) as an action verb, I feel like it conveys the sense that I am in the process sharpening and perfecting something. Since that is the purpose of the blog (to help me to develop and grow and refine my focus as an amateur), there you go. Like I said, I love getting feedback, whether it is about the pictures you see here, the new format, or anything. Let me know what you think. Thanks for visiting! |
