Changing the marquee outside the Hi Pointe. You might have noticed on yesterday's post that the marquee didn't make much sense... it was in a state of transition. It used to say, "THERE WILL BE OSCARS" for There Will Be Blood. When the remake was finished it said "LIKE THE CITY IN ALASKA: 'JUNO'"

I love how they do that there. They only show one movie at a time at the Hi Pointe, and it's usually something artsy or obscure or that was released months ago. But whatever it is, they have a snarky little quote on the marquee to pitch it.

I was actually out on that night 'cause I wanted to take some long exposure shots of this gas station (the huge AMOCO sign for those who know it). I thought I could get some cool shots of the gas station with some light streaking from the intersection traffic, but I am pretty disappointed with the results. But then, lo, on my way back to the car I see the guy changing the marquee at the Hi Pointe and wandered over to shoot a few photos and talk to the guy. Just goes to show you, never know what you'll stumble across if you happen to have your camera on you.

I like this shot, photographically. It's kind of fun to capture someone in the middle of some obscure job. How many dudes are out there on ladders to change the marquee of a street-side movie theatre in America anymore?
